Abstract:
Abstract
This study was conducted on artist tannery (kassala city) in the period from October – December 2021 in order to study some chemical properties of waste water from the tanning process and evaluate negative effects and how to deal with them to reduce damage to the environment. The study followed the descriptive and analytical approaches. Waste water sample were drawn after different operation processes. The parameters (TDS),(TSS),(pH),(NH3), (CL‾),(Fe) and(SO4‾²) were measured and compared with the Sudanese Standard Specifications for treated water. Through the results of this study average values of SO4 (3075) , TSS (3393) and pH (9.39) were outside the permissible limits where will have negative effects on the sorrowing environment. Also the average value of TDS (5237) was above the permissible limits, which necessitates the installation of filters to detain the largest amount of solid materials. Considering heavy metals, the results showed that (Fe) are much higher than the limits of the standard (308.3).
The study recommended to establish a sound management system for tannery waste water and commitment to the environmental laws and legislations of the industrial sector. Also treatment of industrial waste water according to the provisions of the 2001 federal environmental feasibility studies for industrial projects before approving the establishment of the industrial project .
