Abstract The study aimed to know the role played by the Sudan Railways in the international multimodal transport system and to identify the possibilities available for the Sudan Railways and the obstacles and problems facing the railway in applying the concept of international multimodal transport. The study followed the analytical descriptive method to benefit from the data collected for the purpose of research by the Sudan Railways and related companies. The personal interview tool was used to collect the data. The main findings of the study: - The breadth of the Sudan and after the production and consumption areas and surrounded by several locked countries that do not have water ports makes the land transport the most important means of transport and railway pillar of this transport to link Sudan to each other. - The possibilities of the railway of the towing and maneuvering cranes and conveyor belts are very modest and below the required level at the moment. - The absence of Sudan's accession to the special agreements of the World Trade Organization and the regional conventions for the international multimodal transport system and the absence of internal law based on this concept leads to the non-application of this concept at the present time. The main recommendations of the study: - Develop an integrated plan for the acquisition of cranes and drag and maneuver and increase the conveyor belts so that the railway to develop its performance. - Pay attention to the basic infrastructure of the railway lines, bridges and waterways to suit the needs of international transport multimodal. - Building the legal and material components of multimodal transport and taking action to improve the competitive position of national transport forces in the direction of competition of foreigners. en_US
