Abstract:

This study aimed to examine the correlation between academic achievement motivation and academic stress among secondary school students from displaced families enrolled in public schools in the Southern Unit of Port Sudan. Employing a descriptive correlational design, the study sample comprised 176 male and female students. The research utilized the Achievement Motivation Scale for Children and Adolescents (Eman Abdel Maqsoud, 2001) and the Academic Stress Scale (Lotfi Abdel Baset Ibrahim, 2013). Data were analyzed using the Statistical Package for the Social Sciences (SPSS), applying means, standard deviations, Pearson’s correlation coefficient, and the t-test.
The results indicated that both academic achievement motivation and academic stress levels among students from displaced families were high. A statistically significant positive correlation was found between academic achievement motivation and academic stress in the target group. Moreover, significant differences emerged in both variables based on gender, favoring female students. Academic track was also a significant factor in achievement motivation, with students in the science track reporting higher levels; however, no significant differences in academic stress were observed based on academic track.
The study recommends strengthening programs that foster academic achievement motivation among students from displaced families, and developing counseling and educational interventions aimed at alleviating their academic stress, particularly given its elevated levels.
